Need or Needy: Uncovering the Difference

We all deal with real-life needs. And there are deep feelings of needs and neediness inside of us. Getting to know these feelings, accepting them for what they are, and practicing discernment are important steps to getting freed up in this area and finding true abundance.

Some of those feelings are based on scarcity and lack, which are fear-based. Fear is one of the more intense emotions that can be a constricting energy. Because of the constricting feelings, we tend to hold on to what we have. This gets in the way of our true desire to give.

This need for abundance that is based on lack is the opposite of abundance.

Abundance is expansive and open, which comes from receptivity and our deep desire to give.

Releasing fear opens up space for more abundance to be there. Also, releasing all of the constrictions that come with the feelings of scarcity and lack helps to make more space for the experience of abundance to be present.

And then there is a deeper feeling of need inside of us. It is a feeling of wanting something which comes from a deep desire and longing for love and connection. This need for unconditional love comes from the deepest part of us, or our soul.

Finding acceptance for this need and freeing up this underlying desire helps to draw more love toward us.

This deeper need is part of the overall abundance because it allows a flow to happen.

Keys to Dealing with Neediness

  • Allow the feeling of neediness and release the feelings of scarcity and lack.

  • Get to know your judgments and opinions about neediness and let go of those so that you find more openness for what is going on inside of you and other people.

  • Take the feeling of neediness deeper, to where it turns into a need for love.

  • Materially, that need for love can’t be filled. No person can fill it, and nothing material can fill it, because it is not a material need.

  • Unconditional love, because of where it comes from - the endless and ever-increasing Source of love - is the only thing that can quench that inner thirst.

  • Being thirsty like this stops the neediness from being a problem and transforms it into a tool for connecting with our soul’s longing and with Spirit.

  • As we get filled, our desire to give increases and the fear of losing something diminishes.

Dealing with Human Needs

  • We all have real human needs. Take some time to get clear about what those are and what you need to do to take care of them.

  • Identify where those needs come from a place of scarcity. Do your internal work to release the deeper feelings that feed lack and scarcity, so that these needs can become very matter-of-fact things that you take care of on a day-to-day basis.

  • If this is an area that you need to put some focus on in order to have your material life work better, use the meditative thinking part of the meditation. Make lists and find solutions for what you need to do.
