Finding a depth of listening

With very full and busy lives, it’s sometimes challenging to truly hear from within yourself. To hear deeply. To listen carefully. To receive internal guidance.
For yourself. For others. For your life. For your spiritual journey.

When you have a desire to bring more unconditional love to yourself and others, one way to do that is to practice listening. Here are some ideas for how you can expand your capacity for listening deeply.

Listening to Self

  • Take some time for meditation. Apply the following points to practice listening to yourself. Take the opportunity to listen with your entire being. Not just with your mind.

  • Open your heart. Be receptive to the truth.

  • Listen for the whispers.

  • Your thoughts will still be there, but practice listening with your entire being.

  • Be receptive, like a radar antenna.

  • Expand yourself to listen with all parts of yourself.

  • Expand yourself to a place where everything comes from the deepest interior listening.

  • Trust.  No need to struggle or try.

  • Just listen with your entire being.

  • At the end of your meditation, take some time to reflect on your experience of listening with your entire being. Write down anything that has come to you.

Listening to Source

  • Have conversations with Spirit where you talk and listen. You can do this by journaling, talking out loud to your higher self or God, going for prayer walks, and in meditation.

Listening to Others

  • When speaking with someone, discern when to just listen to someone, when to offer suggestions, and when to ask questions to help them find something more.

  • By developing your muscle of listening, you can go deeper in your conversations with people.

  • Try using prayer within yourself in order to stay in a depth when you are talking with people.

  • Practice listening to the part of you that is tuned in to the other person – their needs, their unspoken desires, or a deeper calling for something of truth or freedom.

  • Pay attention to what you have to offer to people, as you feel what is important to them.

  • Practice asking questions to help people get to something true, something deeper, something they truly want for their lives.

📝 Journaling Questions related to Listening to Others📝

  • In what ways do you avoid other people’s pain or suffering?

  • Explore how you can keep yourself open and go deeper with a greater desire to bring more unconditional love to people in your life.

  • What happens inside of you when you become aware of someone in your life wanting or needing something?

  • Do you respond? Do you get afraid? Do you want to fix it? Do you help them to go deeper, to get clear about what they really want and how they might find it?
