Rejuvenate and Relax into Yourself

Like most of the world, I have been experiencing a ride of emotions in connection with both the personal and collective experiences of our world — fear, discouragement, boredom, anxiety, anger. Underneath it all seems to be exposed vulnerability around my core needs for safety, health, certainty, connection. These emotions not only take up head space, I embody them. My stomach gets tight, I get headaches. I feel restless and a bit tired at the same time. And I know that these are all clear signs that I am storing emotions in my body.

The saving grace is when I remember my meditation teachers saying: “There is no figuring this out.” What I really need is a calm nervous system, which gives me access to a groundedness in my body, clarity in thinking, a deeper connection to myself, and a greater motivation to reach out and give to others. Having a calm nervous system takes daily practice for me. Sometimes I need a rigorous practice, like exercise. Other times it takes intentionality to engage in deep relaxation.

On the Heart of the Matter Meditation app, we created a category called “During Covid-19.” There is a meditation in this category called “Rejuvenate and Relax into Yourself.” I know Piper created this meditation because she knows how essential relaxing is for calming the nervous system to create space for well-being — A need that we all share. The actual meditation is terrific to practice at the end of the day, to literally unwind what we have collected in our minds and bodies over the course of the day.

I had a special chance to read the print version of this guided meditation and was inspired to read it as a guided meditation to my partner. I read this meditation to him as a way for us both to relax and connect. I wanted to share this guided meditation with you in hopes that maybe you might want to share it with someone you care about. Maybe you just read it for yourself, maybe you read it to your child during their bed-time routine, or read it to your partner or friend as a way to give and connect over practicing a gentle meditation together.

I hope this meditation is a useful gift for you. Please feel free to share how this meditation was for you in the comment section below.

Be well,

Meditation: Rejuvenate and Relax into Yourself

This meditation will be an opportunity to rejuvenate and relax into yourself.

Get yourself into a comfortable position, either sitting up or lying down.
Close your eyes and start to breathe deeply.

Envision yourself floating on the ocean, buoyed by the water. Floating in gentle waves of love.

Love for yourself. Love that emanates from you to others.

Unconditional love that comes from deep within. That comes from the Source of love. Divine love. Eternal love.

Breathe in the feeling of love.

Breathe out any tension.

Allow your body to relax. Floating, light as a feather, effortless.

Allow your mind to relax. Thoughts passing like clouds. Nothing to think about.

Allow your emotions to relax. Resting inside yourself. At peace for now.

In that peace, listen to your heart. Listen to the sound waves of your heart.

Allow your heart to speak without words. Let your heart feel its true nature.

Longing from your heart. Longing from your love. Longing that transcends and heals.

Breathing … floating… longing…. Resting…. Healing….

Breathing in a cleansing energy.

Trusting the river of love that you are floating on.

Trusting the arms of love that wrap around you, in protection and tenderness.

You are peaceful. Trusting the relaxation. Love that is your birthright, love that needs no earning, that is simply there for you.

Take some deep breaths.

Gratitude. Experience the gratitude for yourself. Grateful beyond words. Gratitude that just is.
